A Career Built on Service and Advocacy

Kimberly’s professional journey reflects a deep commitment to vulnerable communities and to the systems that support them. Over the years, she has worked in Child Abuse Prevention, supporting at-risk children and families; served as an adult psychiatric social worker, helping individuals navigate complex mental health needs; and worked for an insurance company to enrich the lives of individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities, with the goal of decreasing unnecessary hospital and nursing facility admissions.

Kimberly also brings international experience to her work, including time as a professor at the University of Hanoi. Each of these roles has given her a different perspective on how health care systems function, and how they can be improved.

“This collection of experiences has shaped my desire to advance in my field and enter hospital administration,” she explains. “I look forward to having the opportunity to help mold and support new health care workers in providing the best care for our patients.”

Finding the Right Learning Path with Harvard Online

As Kimberly began pursuing the next level of licensure needed to move into leadership roles, she knew she wanted more than just a credential.

“I felt a good addition to the licensure would be detailed instruction on the nuances of leadership in healthcare,” she says. When she discovered the Certificate of Specialization in Health Care Leadership from Harvard Online, it immediately stood out.

Several aspects of the program made it a strong fit for her:

  • Personalized learning: “I like the option of creating a personalized collection of 3 courses to meet my interests.”
  • Strong support and communication: “As questions arose I found communication with multiple people was quick and thorough.”
  • Streamlined experience: “The process to register and then obtain my certificate was streamlined and simple.”

After completing the three courses required for the Certificate of Specialization in Health Care Leadership, Kimberly decided to go a step further. She enrolled in the Adaptive Leadership: Practical Strategies for Change course to deepen her understanding of leadership beyond healthcare-specific contexts.

“The collection of these 4 courses created a strong framework to build my leadership skills,” she reflects. “I have begun to utilize these skills within my current scope of work while I continue to work towards my hospital administration goals.”

Kimberly is actively applying what she's learned, using the leadership tools and frameworks for her pediatric social work practice.
